… this site
On this site, I mainly keep three types of things:
- information related to my academic career (teaching and research);
- blog posts about life, work, and maybe some research oriented thoughts;
- poems (yes, I do write poems; only in Chinese though).
The site is a reborn of an old blog that I kept about five years during my graduate study. The old site was built on WordPress, which to this day I still recommend strongly, especially to those who is building a website for the first time. But unfortunately, on September 7, 2014, the database underlying my WordPress blog somehow failed. I was not able to retrieve anything, and sadly, I lost the entire year’s blog entries. Not too many, thoguh, about fifty.
That was the trigger for me to switch to Jekyll, a fantastic tool to build a blog-aware yet static website. I am even happier to finally got the chance to (or was forced to) practice using some markup language.
The site you are reading now builds tremendously on www.rsms.me. I know this is cheap—simply copying the entire work from some others. But that was the easiest way to set up something good-looking and useful, or, using one of my favorite lines, “snobbish and functional”. So all credits to Rasmas and a million thanks to the Createive Commons License.
